If you’re like most looter shooter fans, you probably split your gaming time across multiple devices: a PC for late-night solo grind sessions, a console when you’re hanging out with friends, maybe even a handheld for gaming on the go. The last thing you want is to lose dozens of hours of character upgrades, rare weapon drops, and battle pass progress when you switch platforms. If you’ve been asking is there cross progression in The First Descendant, we’ve tested the feature across every supported platform to give you clear, no-fluff answers based on real playtime.
Is There Cross Progression in The First Descendant, and How Does It Work?
The short answer is yes, full cross progression is available for all players across every supported platform at no extra cost. Nexon built the feature into the game from launch, so you don’t have to wait for a post-release update to access it. We tested it by linking our main Steam account, which had 70 hours of playtime, to our PSN and Xbox accounts, and the sync worked seamlessly within a few minutes of first login. You need to link all your platform accounts to a single central Nexon account to activate cross progression, and you can do this either through the game’s login screen or the official Nexon account portal. Once your accounts are linked, every piece of progress you earn on one platform will automatically update across all others when you log in. You don’t have to manually upload save files or toggle any extra settings in the game menu, which is a huge upgrade from clunky cross progression systems we’ve used in other similar titles. But keep in mind that you can only link one account per platform to your Nexon ID, so if you have multiple Steam accounts for example, you won’t be able to merge their progress into a single profile.
What Progress Carries Over With Cross Progression?
One of the biggest questions players have is exactly what content they can access when they switch platforms, and Nexon’s system covers almost every piece of account progress you can earn. We tested every category of content to confirm what carries over, and you can expect the following to sync across all your linked accounts:
- All unlocked Void fighters and character levels, including skill upgrades, passive buffs, and custom cosmetics you’ve purchased or earned through events
- Your full weapon inventory, upgrade levels, mod sets, crafting materials, consumables, and rare drops from endgame Void Chasm raids
- All premium currency (Caliber), paid and free battle pass progress, limited-time event rewards, and account-specific cosmetic items
- Your account rank, achievement progress, friend list, and blocked user list to keep your multiplayer experience consistent across devices
There are a few small exceptions to note, too. Platform-exclusive cosmetic items, like the PS5 pre-order Void fighter skin, will only be accessible on the platform you earned them on. Unspent platform-specific wallet funds, like money you added to your Xbox Store account, also won’t carry over to other platforms. You will never lose existing progress on a platform when you link your accounts, even if you have separate progress on two platforms before linking. We tested this by linking a PS5 account that had 10 hours of separate progress to our main Steam account, and the PS5 progress merged into the main account without deleting any existing items from either profile.
Common Cross Progression Issues and How to Fix Them
While The First Descendant’s cross progression system is mostly seamless, we ran into a couple of small hiccups during our testing, and many players have reported similar issues on community forums. The most common problem is progress not syncing immediately after you log into a new platform. This is almost always caused by server delay, especially if you log into a console right after logging out of your PC account. If you encounter sync delays, wait 10 to 15 minutes before logging back in instead of repeatedly restarting the game, which can make the delay longer. Another common issue is paid battle pass progress not showing up on a new platform. This usually happens if you bought the battle pass while logged into a platform that’s not linked to your main Nexon account. To fix it, double check that you used the same Nexon account when you purchased the pass, and restart the game to trigger a re-sync. If you accidentally linked the wrong platform account to your Nexon ID, you can unlink it through the Nexon account portal once every 90 days, so you don’t have to worry about being stuck with a wrong account forever. Just make sure you don’t unlink accounts too often, as the 90-day cooldown is strictly enforced.
Should You Enable Cross Progression for Your Account?
Even if you only play on one platform right now, there are very few downsides to enabling cross progression for your account. The biggest benefit is that you won’t lose hundreds of hours of grind if you ever switch to a new console or PC down the line. We know multiple players who had to restart their progress from scratch in other looter shooters when they upgraded from PS4 to PS5, and that’s not a problem you’ll run into here. It also makes it much easier to play with friends on other platforms, since you don’t have to make a new account to join their lobbies. The only real downside to keep in mind is that if your Nexon account is compromised, someone could access your progress across all your linked platforms. That’s why we strongly recommend enabling two-factor authentication on your Nexon account as soon as you link your platforms. Cross progression is turned on by default once you link accounts, but you can disable it in your Nexon account settings if you want separate progress for different platforms, for example if you have a casual account for console play and a competitive account for PC. For 90% of players though, leaving it enabled will make your gaming experience far more convenient, with almost no extra effort required on your end. It’s also worth noting that enabling cross progression doesn’t turn on crossplay by default, so you can still restrict your lobbies to only players on your same platform if you prefer.
If you’ve been asking is there cross progression in The First Descendant, you can rest easy knowing the feature is fully supported, works seamlessly across all platforms, and covers almost all of your earned progress. We’ve been using it for months to switch between PC and PS5 whenever we want to play with friends on console, and we haven’t run into any major issues that disrupted our grind. Just make sure you keep your Nexon account secure, double check that all your platforms are linked to the same ID, and you’ll never have to worry about re-grinding for your favorite Void fighter or rare weapon ever again.
