If you’ve spent any time scrolling through The First Descendant community feeds lately, you’ve probably seen other players running around with floppy pastel bunny ears on their Descendants, and wondered how to get your hands on the look. This hidden cosmetic doesn’t show up in the in-game shop, and you can’t earn it from regular mission drops either. To unlock it, you need to track down and complete a short hidden quest, and that means learning how to get the bunny code in The First Descendant. I fumbled through this quest for two full evenings when I first heard about it, missing small, unmarked steps that left me stuck with no progress, so I put together this guide to help you skip the frustration and grab the reward in 15 minutes or less.
What Is the Bunny Code, and Why Should You Care?
The bunny code is a 5-digit passcode tied to a permanent hidden quest in The First Descendant, and it unlocks one of the most popular cosmetics in the game. Unlike almost every other rare cosmetic in the game, you don’t have to spend real money on premium currency, or grind hundreds of Void Battles to earn it. All you need to do is track down a few small hidden items around the map, and you’ll get the reward for free.
The bunny code unlocks a non-paywalled, account-wide cosmetic that you can use on every Descendant you own. The Floppy Bunny Head comes in three default pastel shades, and you can dye it any color you want using the regular customization tools in your menu. I thought it was a limited-time event reward when I first saw it, so I rushed to complete it, but it’s been a permanent part of the game since launch, so you don’t have to panic if you don’t have time to run it right away.
Prerequisites to Access the Bunny Code Quest
Before you start hunting for the hidden items, you need to check a few boxes to make sure the quest will spawn for you. I missed one of these prerequisites on my first attempt, and spent an hour running around an empty camp wondering why the quest trigger wasn’t showing up. Make sure you meet all three of these requirements before you start, to save yourself the wasted time:
You can check your Mastery Rank from the main menu, and see if you’ve completed the Vulpine Investigation quest by looking at your completed side quest log. If you haven’t done that quest yet, it only takes 10 minutes to run through, so it’s not a big barrier to entry.
Step-by-Step Process to Get the Bunny Code in The First Descendant
Once you’ve met all the prerequisites, you’re ready to start the quest. First, make sure it’s after 7PM in-game time. You can check the in-game clock in the top right corner of your screen, and if it’s still daytime, you can wait a few minutes for the sun to go down, or fast travel to another region and come back to skip the wait.
Head to the abandoned camp in the far northern edge of the White Sands region. It’s marked as an unmarked location on your map, so you’ll have to navigate to the coordinates just north of the main outpost waypoint. Look for a broken wooden crate next to a burnt-out campfire, and you’ll see a crumpled piece of paper sitting on top of it. Interact with the note to start the quest, and you’ll get a pop-up clue telling you to find three hidden toy bunnies around the world.
The three toy bunnies are in easy-to-reach locations, and you don’t have to fight any enemies to get to them:
The first bunny is under the broken concrete bridge in the Flooded Zone, tucked between two rocks right at the water line. The second is on the top shelf of the supply shed in the main White Sands outpost, you’ll have to jump on the counter to reach it. The third is behind the giant stone statue in the Ruined City, partially covered by a patch of grass.
Make sure you collect all 3 bunnies before returning to the camp, or the chest will not show up for you to interact with. When you pick up each bunny, flip it over in your inventory to see the two-digit number printed on the bottom. The numbers are randomly generated for every player, so you can’t just use a code you found online.
Head back to the abandoned camp, and you’ll see a locked metal chest next to the crate with the note. Interact with the chest, and input the three two-digit numbers in the order you collected the bunnies to make your 5-digit code. If you input the code correctly, the chest will open immediately, and you’ll get the Floppy Bunny Head added to your cosmetic collection. If you mess up the code three times, you’ll have to wait 10 in-game minutes to try again, so double check the numbers before you hit confirm.
Common Mistakes to Avoid When Hunting for the Bunny Code
I made almost every possible mistake when I first ran this quest, so I know exactly what can slow you down. The first mistake most players make is showing up to the camp during in-game daytime. The quest note only spawns after 7PM, and it disappears again at 6AM, so if you show up too early, you’ll find nothing.
Another common mistake is fast traveling away from the quest area mid-collection. I did this when I had to run back to the outpost to clear inventory space, and when I came back, all three bunnies had despawned, so I had to look for them all over again. Don't leave the quest area mid-collection, as some players report the bunnies despawn if you fast travel away before picking all three up.
A lot of players also forget that the code is unique to their playthrough. There’s no universal bunny code that works for everyone, so don’t waste time looking up a code online, because it won’t work for your account. The numbers on the bottom of your bunnies are the only ones that will open your chest.
Finally, don’t delete the toy bunnies from your inventory before you open the chest. If you accidentally delete one, you’ll have to go back and collect all three again, even if you already have the other two. Keep them in your inventory until you’ve unlocked the cosmetic, and then you can delete them to free up space if you want.
Once you input the correct code, the chest will pop open immediately, and you’ll get a notification that the Floppy Bunny Head has been added to your cosmetic collection. You can equip it right away from the character customization menu, and it works with every Descendant on your account, no extra unlocks needed. It’s one of the few truly free, exclusive cosmetics in the game that doesn’t require you to grind hundreds of hours or spend real money to get. Now that you know how to get the bunny code in The First Descendant, you can show off your new cute accessory to your squad during your next co-op boss run.
